VIKTOR KORETSKY (1909-1998) [USSR! STRENGTHEN CIVIL AVIATION!] 1933.
39 3/4x28 inches, 100 1/4x69 1/4 cm. Ogiz-Izogiz, Moscow.
Condition B+ / B: repaired tear in center right image; repaired tears and restoration at edges and along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired pin holes in corners.
A master of the Soviet political propaganda poster, Koretsky employed photography as an inventive tool in graphic design. Prolific in drawing and portrait art, his flair for capturing expressions and emotion in his subjects translated into the success of his impactful poster works. This early Koretsky photomontage promotes Soviet civil aviation, which began in 1923 - proclaiming: "Soviet airplanes and dirigibles should fly over the Soviet country." "The poster depicts some of the benefits of civil aviation: crop dusting, parachuting (and thus civil defense), the dissemination of information, and passenger transport . . . while the bulk of this image consists of hand-drawn graphics, the two pilots are clearly derived from photographs and the landscape emulates aerial photography" (Koretsky p. 36). Rare. Koretsky pl. 11.
