  • Notes: 2 January 1933: ". . . [W]e can discuss Walter''s situation, and if no horrible transgressions are pending, then we''ll get him safely here very soon. After all, we''ve done other things that were much more difficult and dangerous. . . ."
    22 March 1933: ". . . Under no circumstances will we go to Berlin--Albert cannot risk it. . . ."
10 December 1933: ". . . Albert tries hard to lay low, because whether on the street or in a concert hall or theater, there is always so much excitement when he shows up. And since this is deeply abhorrent to him, he prefers to forgo the arts and other pleasures available to him . . . ."
10 April 1934: ". . . Now you have an idea what jüdisches Volk means and also a little idea of Albert''s activity in this regard. I am also deeply impressed every time I''ve had such an experience. In Berlin, I had no idea of it either. One was ''German'' to the bone, until one''s eyes were opened when Hitler came. My husband has visionary power, a prophetic sense within him. Ten years ago he recognized and foresaw all this and lived and worked in this knowledge. That is why he became involved in the development of Palestine. . . ."
