ROBERT BLACKBURN (1920 - 2003)
Young Girl with Fruit (Girl in Red).

Color lithograph on buff wove paper, 1950. 464x318 mm; 18 1/4x12 1/2 inches, wide margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin.

This vibrant proof is a scarce impression of one of Bob Blackburn's best known color lithographs. We know of only a handful of impressions in institutional collections today. The Library of Congress prints and photographs collection has two impressions, one dated 1950, and one dated 1951 and the Brooklyn Museum also has a 1950 dated impression. Another impression is in the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art. Girl in Red was first exhibited in the National Exhibition of Prints at the Library of Congress in 1951 and more recently in the retrospective Robert Blackburn: Passages, David C. Driskell Center, University of Maryland, September 18 - December 19, 2014.
