ROBERT BLACKBURN (1920 - 2003)
Blue Wine Bottle.

Color lithograph, circa 1951-52. 340x410 mm; 13 1/2x16 inches, full margins. Proof, with the registration marks showing in the margins, aside from an edition of an unknown size. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin.

By late 1947, Bob Blackburn had acquired his own lithographic press, and a year later, he opened his Printmaking Workshop in Chelsea, printing for artists and encouraging his friends to experiment in lithography. The artist's interest in abstraction was shared by his fellow printmakers, Will Barnet, Ronald Joseph and John Von Wicht.
