REAGAN, RONALD. Two Autograph Letters Signed, as President, one to daughter Patti Davis, the other to physician and anti-nuclear activi

  • Notes: To Davis: "I've just gotten an answer off to Dr. C. telling her not to worry, it's par for the course. . . ."
To Caldicott: ". . . I can well understand what happened, indeed I've been a victim of the same kind of unethical behavior.
". . . I'm old enough to remember a time when there was a code of honor among the quote, un-quote gentlemen of the press."

--Patti Davis. Autograph Letter Signed, "Patti," to her father ("Dad"), sending the present letter from Caldicott and conveying her apologies. 1 page, 8vo. Np, nd * Helen Caldicott. Two Typed Letters Signed, to President Reagan. The first, thanking him for agreeing to meet, and expressing her respect. The second, apologizing and explaining that she had discussed their meeting with a journalist who, despite stating that the discussion was off-the-record, published it. Each 1 page, 4to, "Physicians for Social Responsibility" stationery. Cambridge, 13; 21 December 1982.
With the intention of swaying her father's opinion regarding nuclear weapons policy, Davis arranged a meeting between the president and Caldicott. The meeting was disappointing, in part because of the sensation that erupted upon the publication of the meeting, caused by a journalist who disregarded her promise to keep a discussion with Caldicott off-the-record.
From the files of Patti Davis.
