  • Notes: Delvaux was a Belgian surrealist painter and sculptor who is known for his dreamlike scenes of female figures in mysterious landscapes and interiors. He studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where he developed an interest in classical art, particularly the works of the Italian Renaissance. After World War I, he became increasingly influenced by the Belgian Symbolist painters, as well as by the works of the early Surrealists in Paris.

Delvaux's style is characterized by a combination of dreamlike elements and classical beauty. He was a member of the Belgian Surrealist group from 1930 to 1936, and after World War II his works were exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. In addition, he taught at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels until his retirement in 1962. He is considered among the most important Belgian Surrealist artists of the 20th century.
