  • Notes: In 1926, Marsden Hartley settled in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France to live and work. Following in the footsteps of Paul Cézanne, Hartley drew Mont Sainte-Victoire frequently. His painting series of the faceted towering formation borrow Cézanne's color palette and exaggerate his technique of constructive brushstrokes, taking these paintings in a new, distinctive direction.
