  • Notes: Dogtown, or Common Settlement, was a fishing settlement on Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Dogtown was abandoned in 1830, and by the time Marsden Hartley created the present drawing, the area had become forest. According to Gerald Ferguson, Hartley drew it from memory while in Nova Scotia in 1936.
