Argentinian artist of Japanese lineage, Kazuya Sakai was influenced by the Gutai group of Japan and was a member of de Artistas Modernos in Argentina. His interests in art were coupled with a background in philosophy and literature. He translated twentieth century Japanese literature into Spanish and, while living in Mexico co-founded the magazine, Plural. His early gestural abstractions gave way to a geometric format. This painting dates from this period of his career.
