The psychological thriller about a parapalegic former movie star (Crawford) who is tormented by her ageing child star sister (Davis), was directed and produced by Robert Aldrich. The stars' real-life rivalry added to its palpable drama. It became a cult classic and revitalized the careers of the two Hollywood legendary actresses. In 2021, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
