DESIGNER UNKNOWN ÖWB WERKBUND AUSSTELLUNG. Circa 1920s.
37 1/4x24 3/4 inches, 94 1/2x62 3/4 cm. R. Kiesel, Salzburg.
Condition B+: minor repaired tears, creases and restoration at edges and along vertical and horizontal folds; foxing in image. Mounted on Japan. Framed.
The ÖWB was the Austrian Werkbund, an association of artists established in 1912. This stark, bold, typographical design for an exhibition in Salzbürg, plays with the prevalent graphic conceit of the era of using brands as icons, similar in concept to certain works by Julius Klinger, Lucian Bernhard, Mihaly Biro, Joseph Binder and Alfred Mahlau. Rare.

From the Aminoff / Faccini Estate.
