(CURIOSA.) Martin, Charles. Mascarades et Amusettes. Engraved title and 24 plates by Martin (one color and one monochrome suite of 12 illustrations; 13 of which are hors-texte). Oblong folio, 310x419 mm; 12 1/4x16 inches, loose as issued, laid into custom orange calf portfolio with gilt-stamped cover title and blind border, light scuffing; edges of contents variously but very lightly toned or creased; plates bright. Paris: A l'enseigne du nombril de Vénus [Marcel Valotaire, Jean Beauclair et Georges Cretté, 1933]

  • Notes: number 11 of only 63 copies of this scarce work of brash curiosa by martin, the master of pochoir and fashion illustration of the 1920s. An unusual, unexpected, and very erotically graphic publication that touches on all manner of taboos and the employment of otherwise innocent items like pickles. Dutel 1937.
