Etching, 1853. 170x130 mm; 6 3/4x5 1/8 inches, full margins. Sixth state (of 10), with the burnishing marks and before the title lower center. A superb, early impression of this scarce etching.

According to Schneiderman, " Le Stryge is one of the stone gargoyles leaning on the parapet of the upper balcony on a tower of Notre-Dame, Paris. This famous view by Meryon (1821-1868) shows the gargoyle frowning in the immediate foreground, with an aerial view of Paris stretching off into the background."
