CHARLES KIFFER (1902-1992) EDITH PIAF / POLYDOR. Circa 1938.
62x45 1/2 inches, 157 1/2x115 1/2 cm. Bedos & Cie., Paris.
Condition A-: minor creases in margins and image. Framed.
This poster promoting a record of the French 'sparrow,' "is at one and the same time simple and vigorous: a portrait of Edith, austere in her black dress on a red background, in one of her favorite poses, her hands on her thighs" (Folies Bergere p. 15). Kiffer spent his entire career designing posters for the Parisian Music Hall world. For a long time, Maurice Chevalier employed him exclusively to design his posters, but Kiffer also created images for Marcel Marceau and other performers. Folies Bergere 97.
